Day 17 – Jesus is the True Prophet; Lust is a False Prophet

Day 17 – Jesus is the True Prophet; Lust is a False Prophet

Lust is a false prophet that whispers the devil’s ancient lie: “You will not surely die” (Gen 3:4).

Deuteronomy 18:15-19 –

15 “The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your brothers—it is to him you shall listen— 16 just as you desired of the Lord your God at Horeb on the day of the assembly, when you said, ‘Let me not hear again the voice of the Lord my God or see this great fire any more, lest I die.’ 17 And the Lord said to me, ‘They are right in what they have spoken. 18 I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their brothers. And I will put my words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them all that I command him. 19 And whoever will not listen to my words that he shall speak in my name, I myself will require it of him.

Deuteronomy 34:10-12 –

10 And there has not arisen a prophet since in Israel like Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face, 11 none like him for all the signs and the wonders that the Lord sent him to do in the land of Egypt, to Pharaoh and to all his servants and to all his land, 12 and for all the mighty power and all the great deeds of terror that Moses did in the sight of all Israel.

Matthew 21:10-11 – 10 And when he entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred up, saying, “Who is this?” 11 And the crowds said, “This is the prophet Jesus, from Nazareth of Galilee.”

A prophet speaks on behalf of God to the people. Moses fulfilled this role. Matthew tells us in his Gospel that Jesus is God’s Prophet, for the people said so. And God publicly identified Jesus as the Prophet Moses spoke of by directing His life to parallel Moses’ life:

1. Jesus’ birth was like Moses’ birth.

Herod sought to kill Jesus (Matt 2:13).

Pharaoh sought to kill Moses (Ex 1:10, 16).

Jesus was saved by fleeing to Egypt (Matt 2:13).

Moses was saved by becoming a son of Egypt (Ex 2:1-10).
